GreyMatters is an interactive life storybook app for the tablet that improves quality of life for people with dementia and their caregivers. Through visual reminiscence, paired with music & games, the app helps older adults and families preserve yesterday's memories, as well as share today’s joyful moments. With a strong belief that people with dementia are "still here," GreyMatters taps into the abilities that remain to keep individuals engaged and connected.
Inspired by time spent with my late grandmother, Frieda, who suffered from vascular dementia, GreyMatters is built on the activities that worked best to draw out her long term memory and spirit, and have worked for many others as well. These activities include: hearing stories from one's early life, looking through old family photos, and listening to music from one's youth. Reminiscence therapy and life story work are powerful tools used in dementia care that can help to improve quality of life for both memory-impaired individuals and their caregivers.
APP FEATURES:
• CREATE A PERSONALIZED LIFE STORYBOOK:
Customize "My Life" story pages for your loved one, filled with long term memories from his/her life. Upload your own family photos, along with simple text & voice narration, to evoke memories from younger years & foster communication.
• RECORD & SHARE NEW MEMORIES:
Instantly capture special moments that occur while using the app together – whether a sparked memory or a smile. Share these “I Remember” videos with family members on the spot.
• REFLECT ON THE WORLD:
Look through pre-loaded "My World" story pages filled with universal content that appeals to your loved one's interests based on generation – such as entertainers, films, history & pop culture from the 1930s, 40s & 50s. Additional themes available within the app.
• LISTEN TO MUSIC & PLAY GAMES:
Create custom music playlists from your iTunes library for your loved one to enjoy while viewing story pages. Music can be an incredibly powerful tool in drawing out long term memories. In addition, play a game of memory cards together featuring familiar content from your loved one's life.
• CREATE MULTIPLE PROFILES:
GreyMatters works well in both a private setting as well as a larger care facility because you can create individual profiles for each person in your care. Each user's personalized story pages and all other content will be saved for later use.
• COLLABORATE WITH FAMILY (NEW!):
This new version of GreyMatters allows multiple family members to log in to the same account for their loved one. This allows for easier collaboration among family members, especially those in different locations, for whom caregiving can be very stressful.
• SUBSCRIPTIONS:
Along with family sharing & other updates, the new version of the app offers 3 different subscription plans:
$4.99/month: single profile
$19.99/month: 2-9 profiles
$49.99/month: 10+ profiles, geared more toward institutions.
All content previously available for purchase is now free with a subscription.
• Payment will be charged to iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase
• Subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period
• Account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current period, and identify the cost of the renewal
• Subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renewal may be turned off by going to the user's Account Settings after purchase
• Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication, where applicable
